French Translation Questions People Ask Before Ordering

These come from people holding their own French papers, not from a list somebody made up. Small points, but each one has held an application up.

My mairie gave me a short extract. Is that enough for UKVI?

Often not. The plain extrait leaves your parents off, and a caseworker looking at a family link needs to see them. Ask for the version with filiation, or the full copy. It costs you nothing extra at the mairie, and it saves a request for more evidence later.

There are notes written down the side of my certificate.

Those go in, every one of them. French records keep divorces, name changes and deaths in the margin rather than in the main entry. Leaving them out makes your paper look like it is hiding something, when in fact it is the most useful part of the page.

Is my PACS the same as a marriage?

No, and calling it one would tell UKVI something untrue. A PACS is a civil partnership in French law. We keep the French name and add a short line explaining what it gives you, so the caseworker reads it correctly.

The DVLA asked for something my licence card does not show.

They want the attestation de droits à conduire, a separate sheet from your licence office listing what you passed and when. Most people send the plastic card by mistake. You can usually download the sheet in minutes, and we will confirm before you order.

My first name is hyphenated and my passport writes it differently.

Tell us the passport spelling and we follow it, with a short note showing how the French paper has it. Double first names cause more queries than anything else on these files, because two spellings look like two people.

My certificate has a code or a QR block on it.

Can payslips and a work contract go in the same order?
